Day 1. To Ho Chi Minh City
Late morning depart London Gatwick on direct Vietnam Airlines to Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 2. Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Morning arrival in Ho Chi Minh City. Met on arrival and transfer to the Majestic Hotel for four nights.
Day 3. Ho Chi Minh City Morning Tour
Morning city tour encompassing the heart of the city driving down Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), past the Rex Hotel, Ho Chi Minh Square, Municipal Theatre and the Notre Dame Cathedral. Tour the Reunification Palace (formerly the Presidential Palace) and War Remnants Museum. Explore the enormous Binh Tay Wholesale market, with its beehive of stores hawking everything under the sun. Finally visit the ornate Thien Hau Temple, dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea.
Day 4. Cu Chi excursion
After breakfast drive to the fascinating Cu Chi tunnel networks, established as a means of waging guerrilla warfare against superior French, then later American firepower. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 5. Mekong Delta – Cai Be floating market
Early this morning depart Saigon by road and journey into the Mekong Delta. Embark on a traditional wooden boat, stylishly fitted out with bamboo chairs and lounging cushions. Tour the colourful floating market of Cai Be, afterwards visit a historic Mandarin house dating from the 19th C. Continue on to an untouched area of the Mekong Delta, where life continues, largely undisturbed, as it has for generations.
Day 6. To Dalat – Afternoon Sightseeing tour
Morning flight to Dalat. Afternoon sightseeing tour of Dalat: the City of Eternal Spring, with its colourful flower gardens, picturesque scenery of the Valley of Love, Tuyen Lam Lake, the Chinese Pagoda and Bao Dai’s Summer Palace. Overnight at the Dalat Palace Hotel.
Day 7. To Nha Trang
Morning drive to Nha Trang across the spectacular Ngoan Muc Pass, then descend to the tropical plains of Vietnam’s south coast. Two nights Evason Ana Mandara & Six Senses Spa.
Day 8. Nha Trang – at leisure
Day at leisure perhaps visiting the serene spa for some well deserved pampering, or simply just laze the day away!
Day 9. To Hoi An via Danang – sightseeing
Morning transfer to Nha Trang Airport to board flight to Da Nang. Met on arrival with sightseeing tour of Danang visiting the Cham Museum, an elegant Colonial building, now housing the finest collection of Cham sculpture in the world. Pass China Beach, a famous spot for American soldiers during the Vietnam-American War. Two nights at the Life Heritage Hotel.
Day 10. CHoi An Walking Tour
Morning walking tour of Hoi An visiting the Japanese covered bridge, Sa Huynh Museum with its unique insight into Hoi An’s history, the Tran Family Chapel and finally a lantern making workshop.
Day 11. To Hue – Perfume River Cruise
After breakfast drive along scenic mountain roads with spectacular views over the coastline to Hue, arriving around lunch time. This afternoon take a leisurely boat ride down the Perfume River, stopping at the iconic Thien Mu Pagoda, an elegant seven-tiered octagonal tower. Continue to the countryside to the Imperial Tomb of Minh Mang, a majestic complex of courtyards, pavilions and Temples in a beautiful natural setting. Overnight at La Residence Hotel & Spa Hue.
Day 12. Hue – Imperial Palace Tour – afternoon to Hanoi
Morning guided tour of the Old Imperial Palace. Afternoon transfer to the airport to board flight to Hanoi. Evening watch a unique display of water puppetry. Two nights at the Movenpick Hanoi.
Day 13. Hanoi City Tour
After breakfast guided tour of Hanoi visiting the Ho Chi Minh Quarter, including the Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh’s house and the One Pillar Pagoda. Continue to the Temple of Literature then see the infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton’ prison.
Day 14. To Halong Bay
An early start to Halong Bay. On arrival at Tuan Chau Island board the Emeraude Classic Cruise boat. Halong Bay achieved international fame as a key location in the French film ‘Indochine’ starring Catherine Deneuve. Considered Vietnam’s greatest natural wonder, Halong Bay boasts over 3,000 islands rising dramatically out of the turquoise sea. Explore its caves and cool down, swimming in one of the many secluded bays. Overnight onboard the Emeraude.
Day 15. To Hanoi – Morning Tai Chi class
Before breakfast attend an early morning - optional-Tai Chi class on the sundeck. Disembark the cruise and return to Hanoi. Overnight at the Movenpick Hotel.
Day 16. To London via Bangkok
Transfer to the airport to board Vietnam Airways flight to London Gatwick.
