Belmond ‘Road To Mandalay’

A cruise along the Ayeyarwady River is arguably the most romantic way to travel through Myanmar, and certainly the most relaxing. Plying the scenic waterway between energetic Mandalay and the abundant temples of Bagan, Belmond’s luxurious Road to Mandalay river cruiser strikes an ideal balance between classic aesthetic, modern comfort, and a very convenient route. The cabins are finished to a high standard, with white wood-beamed ceilings and large outward-facing windows creating a welcome sense of space and light. The elegant decor uses golden neutrals, Colonial-style polished furniture, regional artefacts, and a variety of sophisticated textures and textiles to create a peaceful, comfortable habitat, with en-suite bathrooms that are likewise well-proportioned and stylishly designed. A fabulous array of Burmese, European, Thai, Indonesian and Indian specialities are served for lunch, which can be taken on the observation deck as well as the restaurant. An a la carte dinner is served in the restaurant, which also boasts a well-selected wine list. The bar is situated on the observation deck, perfect for a sundowner as you slide along the Ayeyarwaddy. Soft drinks and local beer can be enjoyed at any time you please and house wine is included with lunch and dinner.

When it comes to shore excursions, there is a mix of cultural focused experiences alongside more adventurous pursuits. For relaxation, not only are there two 'spa' rooms where a traditional massage or invigorating facial is possible, but also a petite swimming pool set into the wooden sundeck. Cultural performances are provided for entertainment.

What our clients say

It is with much gratitude & appreciation to yourself from my Mother, and myself for our wonderful 'holiday', more an 'experience', that you receive this communication.

The itinerary was excellent, although very busy, but if we had not more or less stuck to the itinerary we would not have seen as much as we did!! As I mentioned to you on the phone, we did…
