Back to Laos

An introduction to Selective Journeys

Once known as the 'Land of a Million Elephants', Laos offers a refreshing change from the modernity of the rest of the world. There are no trains to rush for, traffic lights are seldom seen outisde of the capital and the pace of life remarkably slower. It has a long and fascinating history of royalty, occupation and struggle for independence, awe inspiring ‘vats’ (temples) and a unique mix of French colonial and traditional architecture.Laos is still unspoilt – a less touristed and relatively undiscovered country packed with beautiful scenery, relaxed and friendly people, great food, stunning sights and, relatively speaking - still ‘off the beaten track’ of mainstream tourism. Our series of Selective Journeys captures the essence of Laos and will enrich your visit with memories, an experience and an education and most importantly discover the true meaning of getting away from it all.

Cooking With Kethana

Discover the secrets of authentic Khmer cuisine in the course of a half-day cooking class with Mrs Kethana Dunnet at her beautiful country home near the Banteay Srei Temple. Kethana is the owner and founder of the Sugar Palm restaurants in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh and is known for her work with many celebrity TV chefs including Gordon Ramsay and Luke Nguyen. Over the course of the morning learn various dishes that are served at Sugar Palm and the differences between Khmer and other regional cuisines. After dining on your creations take a guided visit to the Golden Silk Farm followed by the jewel of Angkor, Banteay Srei. Return to Kethana’s house at the end of the day to watch the sunset over the rice fields and toast your memorable day with a glass of champagne.

What our clients say

We were very pleased with the organisation of our visit to Kamptee. With such short notice, you did a great job getting the contacts with the gentleman, Father Sebasti who in turn made contact with Noel Joseph and in turn George Taj. We were thrilled that our guide Irfan and driver Mr Singh, rearranged our afternoon so that we could wait till Noel could return…
