Day 1 : To Yangon (Rangoon)

Fly from London to Yangon, via Bangkok on Thai Airways.

Day 2 : Yangon

Arrive Yangon. Two nights at the Strand Hotel. Later take a walk with a ‘colonial’ air from the Sule Pagoda to the Yangon riverfront.

Day 3 : Yangon – City tour

Morning excursion to Chaukhtatgyi Reclining Buddha, the Shwedagon Pagoda, and Kandawgyi Lake. Afternoon visit to Bogyoke Aung San market and bargain for anything from jewellery, to paintings, to antiques and handicrafts or the local ‘longyi’.

Day 4 : To Mandalay – Visits to include City tour, Amarapura and Dinner with Show

Early morning flight to Mandalay. Tour of Amarapura, including the Mahagandayon Monastery, the main centre of Buddhist learning in Burma. Afternoon city exploration of Mandalay and see the sunset at Mandalay Hill. Three nights Mandalay Hill Resort.

Day 5 : Day tour to Maymyo and National Kandawgyi Gardens

Full day trip to Maymyo (Pyin Oo Lwin). Initially a military outpost, Maymyo became the summer capital of during British rule. Visit the Kandawgyi National Botanical Gardens and Pyin Oo Lwin Nursery, with their wide variety of plants, trees, indigenous orchids, flowers and animals: see also the local Pagodas and Temple; the impressive Pwe Kauk Waterfalls, and finally, Peik Chin Myaung - an intriguing large Buddhist shrine-cave.

Day 6 : Half day Ayeyarwady Cruise to Mingun

After breakfast, board a boat for a short cruise on the Ayeyarwady River to the 18th C. Royal capital of Mingun. Explore Mingun on foot, taking in the key sites, including King Bodawpaya’s unfinished Temple and the mighty Mingun Bell. Visit the enchanting Hsinbyume Pagoda, with its crisp white wave-like roof set perfectly against the deep blue sky. Return to Mandalay for lunch; afteroon at leisure.

Day 7 : To Pagan via Nyaung U – U Bein, Inwa and visit to Sagaing

Morning visit U Bein Bridge, Inwa - by horse-drawn cart - and Sagaing Hill with its superb views particularly, of the almost surreal clusters of pagodas, dotting the surrounding hills. Afternoon flight to Nyaung U then transfer to the hotel. Three nights Tharabar Gate Hotel.

Day 8 : Pagan – Full day tour of Pagan including local village visits

Full-day tour of Pagan, highlights include Tayoke Pyay and Ananda Temple - one of the finest, largest, best preserved and most revered of the Bagan Temples. Later visit a local village perhaps Minanthu Village with its oil presses powered by bullocks.

Day 9 : Pagan – Full day tour of Temples and Pagodas

Continue the tour of Pagan – highlights include Nyaung U Market, Shwezigon Pagoda (the holiest), Hgnet Pyit Taung, Lawkananda and Dhammayazika Temples. In Burma the monuments are built in red brick, soft and mellow in the evening sun.

Day 10 : To Inle Lake via Heho – Lake tour

Morning flight to Heho and transfer to Inle Lake. Afternoon tour the floating villages, gardens and Temples around Inle Lake and watch the famous leg rowers in action! Three night at Inle Resort.

Day 11 : Inle Lake - Inn Thein Pagoda

Morning excursion by boat to the Inn Thein Pagoda. Afternoon at leisure.

Day at leisure to relax and enjoy the lake.

Farewell dinner

Day 13 : To Yangon – National Museum visit and Farewell Dinner

Morning flight to Yangon and visit the National Museum. Farewell dinner at Le Planteur. Overnight at the Sule Shangri-La.

Day 14 : To London via Bangkok

Morning transfer to the airport and flight back to London via Bangkok on Thai Airways.
