‘Serendipity’ is a land rich in cultural treasures with ancient cities still echoing their might and majesty. Wildlife parks team with flora and fauna: breathtaking vistas are around every corner, and stunning beaches are just perfect to dance though the dazzling white surf.

This delightful tour encompasses some of the most outstanding sights and sounds of the land... ancient sculptures, delectable frescoes, and startling green hill country strewn with tea plantations. Go on a wildlife ‘safari’ seeking leopard and elephant, before the ultimate in relaxation... unwinding by the shimmering waters of the Bay of Bengal on Sri Lanka’s beautiful east coast.

Wherever you go there are unexpected discoveries and delightful encounters make this tour full of lasting memories.

The east coast is best enjoyed from May to September. From November to April the beach break will be on the lovely south coast at the delightful Lighthouse Hotel & Spa in Galle. The tour can be done in reverse order.

Day 1 : To Colombo

Fly from London on direct schedule airlines to Colombo.

Day 2 : Colombo

Meet on arrival & transfer to Colombo. Overnight at the Galle Face Hotel. B

Day 3 : To Yala via Galle

After breakfast take the coast road to Yala: pass saltpans, freshwater lagoons, palm fringed villages - explore the delightful Colonial port of Galle and see the famous ‘Stilt Fishermen’. Two nights at the Cinnamon Wild. B

Day 4 : Yala on ‘safari’

Morning and afternoon game drives to the Park. The open parkland with its rocky outcrops and dense jungle offers a diverse habitat for elephant, deer, buffalo and the secretive leopard; who are often seen lounging on the rocky hillocks. The bird life is spectacular, particularly, in the migratory seasons. B

Day 5 : To Nuwara Eliya via Ella Falls with Tea Plantation visit

After breakfast drive to Nuwara Eliya. A lovely journey, climbing ever higher through rolling hills dotted with tea plantations. At Ella Falls stop to view the breathtaking panorama as the escarpment, 3,280 ft high, splits apart and the valley plummets to the plains below. Enroute visit a tea factory and sip an aromatic cup of pure Sri Lankan Tea. Two nights at the Heritance Tea Factory. B

Day 6 : Excursion to Horton Plains

Early morning drive to Horton Plains – grasslands interspersed with forest – walk to Worlds End to see the mists magically rising as the first rays of the sun light a new day. If feeling adventurous onwards to Baker’s Falls. Afternoon at leisure to explore delightful Nuwara Eliya - a ‘Colonial’ style town. B

Kandy Temple of the Tooth

Day 7 : To Kandy - Temple of the Tooth and Cultural performance

After breakfast depart for Kandy. Evening visit the Temple of the Tooth and see a Kandyan dance and cultural performance. Two nights at the Ellerton Bungalow. B

Day 8 : Kandy – City Tour and Peradeniya Botanical Gardens

After breakfast spend time exploring the town of Kandy including a visit to the Peradeniya Botanical Garden – a delight for gardeners with over 5000 species of plants to admire. Also visit the Orchid House – a blaze of colour when in full bloom. B

Day 9 : To Sigiriya

After breakfast, drive to Sigiriya located ideally to explore the Cultural Triangle. Two nights at the Cinnamon Lodge. B

Day 10 : Excursion to Sigiriya & Polonnaruwa

After breakfast visit the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya, soaring 600 feet skyward, built by the notoriously eccentric King Kasyapa in the 5th C. AD. It’s home to the delectable frescoes of ‘Heavenly Maidens’. Afternoon visit the 2nd Medieval Capital of Sri Lanka at Polonnaruwa. Drive over the bunds of vast man made ‘tanks’ dug to hold water in a parched land. Visit the Gal Vihara: undeniably the gem of Sri Lankan religious sculpture. Also view the Tivanka Image House with its 12th C. paintings. B

Day 11 : To Passekudah via Dambulla Cave Temples

After breakfast visit the spectacular Buddhist Cave Temples of Dambulla with over 22,000 sq. ft of murals and wonderful Buddha statues. Later drive to the eastern coast of Passekudah. Four nights at the Anantaya Resort & Spa. B

Day 12 -14 : Passekudah - Days at leisure

The east coast of the island is renowned for its gorgeous beaches; long stretches of shimmering sand bordered by the clear blue ocean: Passekudah is Sri Lanka’s best kept secret. There is so much or so little to do here... Unwind in the spa with traditional Sri Lankan Ayurveda, jet ski, snorkel over beautiful coral reefs or sip a cocktail as dusk falls over the breathtaking view of Passekudah Bay... B

Day 15 : To Negombo via Anuradhapura

After breakfast drive to Negombo visiting the ancient 5th C. capital of Anuradhapura. See the ancient Bo Tree – the Sri Mahabodhi – The Brazen Palace and Samadhi Buddha. Overnight at the Heritance Negombo. B

Day 16 : To London

Transfer back to the airport for direct scheduled flight back to London.
