The Tour

This immersive 14-day journey through North India blends history, art, food, and local insight, offering a deeper perspective beyond traditional sightseeing. Beginning in Delhi, the trip explores the layered heritage of India’s capital through expert-led tours, iconic monuments, and exceptional dining experiences.

From Delhi, the journey continues to Agra to witness the Taj Mahal at sunrise and explore Mughal architecture, before travelling onward to Jaipur, where guests experience the vibrant “Pink City” through its markets, palaces, design scene, and cultural storytellers.

The itinerary then slows in Alwar, staying in a historic hill fort and enjoying nature, relaxation, and local culture. A contrast follows in Varanasi, one of the world’s oldest living cities, where spiritual rituals and ancient traditions offer a profound and atmospheric experience.

Throughout the tour, accommodation is in carefully selected heritage properties and boutique hotels, and experiences are enriched by historians, artists, and local experts along with Reena who will accompany the group throughout and share her insight of North Indian food, culture and lifestyle.

Tour Leader – Reena Anderson-Bickley (The Curious Indian)

I knew from the moment I met Yasin from Indus Experiences at the Oriental Rug & Textile Society summer party, that we would create something truly special together.

Born in Cheshire to Indian parents who emigrated to England in the 1960s, I developed an early and enduring connection to India. Regular childhood visits to Delhi, followed by extended stays after university, fostered a deep appreciation for the country’s language, culture, and especially the rich, syncretic artistic and architectural traditions of North India.

With over thirty years’ experience working with businesses in India, and more than fifty years of regular travel to the country, I bring a rare combination of personal familiarity and professional insight to my tours. My close family ties and long-standing relationships in the region inform an intimate understanding of its cultural, social, and culinary life.

A few years ago, I pivoted my career to pursue this passion academically, and graduated with distinction from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, specialising in the Arts of India, the Arts of Islamic Lands, and South Asian Art Histories. This formal study complements decades of first-hand experience, allowing me to approach India’s heritage with both depth and clarity.

I design and lead carefully curated tours for travellers with an interest in India’s history and culture. I don’t use conventional guides, I have created a network of art historians, anthropologists, conservators, and specialists involved in UNESCO-supported initiatives, the tour offers rare access to those actively engaged in preserving India’s cultural legacy.

Our journeys are thoughtfully designed to go beyond the conventional, combining scholarly insight with authentic, on-the-ground experiences. From exceptional dining, ranging from Michelin-style cuisine to local favourites to shopping that spans luxury boutiques and vibrant markets, each itinerary offers a rich and immersive perspective on North India.

Under ornate ‘chhatris’ , the white Mughals rest in Agra’s Roman Catholic Cemetery. Approximately 400 years old, the cemetery is unique. Here the early Christian settlers of north India were buried under elaborately ornate Mughal style tombs, some of which were crude replicas of the Taj. The epitaphs come with an assortment of languages, which include Persian, Armenian, Italian and English. Among the tombs that stand out in the Roman Catholic Cemetery is the Red Taj, housing the mortal remains of the Dutch mercenary, John William Hessing.

The site is home to remarkable monuments such as the Dhamek Stupa, believed to mark the exact spot of the sermon, and the Ashokan Pillar, which once bore the emblem that later became the national symbol of India. Time dependent, we will also visit the nearby Lhaden Chenmo Tibetan Monastery, constructed in 1955, it is the first monastery and temple built by the present Dalai Lama in India.
