Moorish Architecture – Al Andalus
9 -18 September 2022 Alumni

In Al-Andalus, the Islamic kingdom on the Iberian Peninsula that lasted nearly 800 years, the Moors created some of the most spectacularly beautiful architecture ever seen in western Europe. In the same year the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabel, completed the Christian reconquest of Spain, they also sent Columbus on his historic journey, triggering the Golden Age of Spain, which is reflected in its art. This tour of Cordoba, Seville, Granada and Malaga will include visits to the three most iconic examples of Moorish architecture – the Great Mosque of Cordoba, the Alcazar of Seville and the Alhambra of Granada – and to three fascinating galleries of Spanish art. All visits will be preceded by short lectures that will help you experience and interpret what you see. Your journey through the spectacular mountain scenery of Andalucia will also take you to an authentic flamenco show in Cordoba, and a sherry tasting at a very special bodega in Jerez, with its own outstanding art gallery.

Trip scholars: Dr. Jacqueline Cockburn (first 3 days only), a specialist in the Spanish Golden Age, and Ian Cockburn (all 10 days), a specialist in medieval Spanish art history.

What our clients say

We were very pleased with the organisation of our visit to Kamptee. With such short notice, you did a great job getting the contacts with the gentleman, Father Sebasti who in turn made contact with Noel Joseph and in turn George Taj. We were thrilled that our guide Irfan and driver Mr Singh, rearranged our afternoon so that we could wait till Noel could return…
