Monday 17 January
After breakfast, visit the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya built by the patricidal King Kasyapa. See the frescoes of ‘Heavenly Maidens’. Wander the summit with its bathing pools and pavilions. B, D

Day 4: Excursion to Polonnaruwa and Minneriya
Tuesday 18 January
Morning guided tour of Polonnaruwa the Medieval capital of Sri Lanka including: King’s Council Chamber, Royal Pavilion and outstanding sculptures of the Buddha at the Gal Vihara. Afternoon game drive to Minneriya National Park home to vast herds of elephants. B, D

Day 5: To Dambulla Cave Temple and Kandy’s Temple of the Tooth
Wednesday 19 January
Morning visit the Buddhist Cave Temples of Dambulla with its vibrant frescoes and evocative Buddha statues. Afternoon drive to Kandy. Evening visit the Temple of the Tooth followed by a Cultural Show. Two nights stay at Hotel Suisse. B, D

Day 6: Kandy City tour and Peradeniya Botanical Gardens
Thursday 20 January
Afternoon city tour of Kandy including a visit to the Art and Crafts workshop and Bazaars. Later visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens with its beautiful Orchard House. B, D

Day 7: To Nuwara Eliya via Tea Factory
Friday 21 January
Early morning drive to Nuwara Eliya. Climb high undulating hills dotted with Tea Plantations. Visit a working Tea Factory and learn how tea is made. Two nights stay at Araliya Green Hills. B, D

Day 8: Morning Excursion - Highlights of Nuwara Eliya
Saturday 22 January
Drive around the hill capital to see its mock Tudor and Georgian architecture - including the St Andrews hotel, Hill Club, Grand Hotel and the Race course. Next onto Lake Gregory situated in the heart of the town, finally visit the fruit and vegetable market. B, D

Day 9: To Ella and Yala National Park
Sunday 23 January
Morning tour of Ella viewing the Demodara nine arch railway bridge, climb Little Adams peak and see the famous Ravana Ella. Afternoon to Yala National Park. Two nights at Kithala Resort. B, D

Day 10: Yala National Park Safari
Monday 24 January
Dawn jeep safari to Yala National Park. Look out for spotted deer, leopards and mongoose. Birds include brown-capped babbler and painted stork. Drive to the remoter parts seeking out the large herds of elephants. Trail leopard - visiting places where they are regularly found in caves and on rocky outcrops. B, D

Day 11: To Galle
Tuesday 25 January
Morning drive to Galle. Two nights stay at Amari Galle. B

Day 12: Galle Fort Tour
Wednesday 26 January
Morning guided tour of this delightful scenic Fort. Virtually untouched by modernization the Fort still maintains its Dutch Colonial air. Afternoon at leisure. B
